Medals rain down on CUBE athletes at CX National Champs weekend

This weekend’s packed racing schedule saw the 2022 National Cyclocross Championships take place in a number of countries. The athletes of the Tormans Cyclo Cross Team and Team Schamel p/b Kloster Kitchen rode their CUBE Cross Race C:62 and C:68X bikes to multiple national CX titles and podium spots.

In Brandenburg, it was the city of Luckenwalde that played host to the German CX Nationals where the riders from Team Schamel p/b Kloster Kitchen took to the start line to see who would be crowned national champion. Judith Krahl proved once again that she is on excellent form with her third consecutive German national title in the U23 category. Reigning U23 champion Pascal Toemke successfully defended his title to keep hold of the black, red and gold stripes. Fabian Eder, already a podium finisher in his first year as an U23 rider, took second place for a one-two win.

For the Tormans Cyclo Cross Team, this was a weekend for the history books. Just one day after Luxembourger Marie Schreiber was crowned U23 National Champion, all of the six riders competing on Sunday for the men’s national title in their respective categories were able to bring home a medal for the team.

In South London, Thomas Mein became the reigning British Cyclocross Champion after an impressive duel in the elite men’s category. Three days before his 23rd birthday, Thomas took the victory with a four-second lead over his nearest rival to secure CUBE and the Tormans Cyclo Cross Team their first British success. Toby Barnes of Team Schamel p/b Kloster Kitchen took bronze in the U23 category and another medal for CUBE.

At the Belgian CX Nationals, Emiel Verstrynge controlled the U23 race in Middelkerke from the start to take home the title as Belgian National Champion. Joran Wyseure celebrated his 21st birthday by rounding out the podium with bronze and a great overall result for the team. It was then the turn of the elite men to take to the grid on the sandy seaside circuit. Tessenderlo-born Quinten Hermans was third to cross the line for his first elite national medal.

Swissman Kévin Kuhn battled ice-cold conditions in Steinmaur, where he dominated the race to finish with an almost one-minute lead over his nearest rival. The 23-year-old took gold and secured his second title as Swiss National CX Champion in the elite men’s.

Despite a nasty crash in Baal on New Year’s Day, the Dutchman Corné van Kessel played on his experience to secure silver in the elite men’s category at the CX nationals in the Netherlands.

Czech rider Michael Boros scooped yet another title for CUBE. The 30-year-old distanced his rivals and claimed the Czech national title in the elite category.
