Florian Angert fifth at Ironman Worlds

Florian Angert secured the fifth spot at his Ironman World Championship debut in St. George, USA, as the first German to cross the finish line.

A strong swim leg saw Angert leave the water in the leading group of five athletes with a gap of more than two minutes over Kristian Blummenfelt, the man who would eventually go on to win the title. Next up was the bike leg, with Angert powering around the 180 km course on board his custom Aerium C:68 in blue-chrome livery. He worked with the lead group to set a fast pace and the bunch was still together as they reached T2.

A tough battle for positions ensued during the run leg, and Angert set a solid marathon time despite suffering from cramps to secure himself the fifth spot at his first-ever Ironman World Championship.

He now has the opportunity to build on this success at the 2022 Ironman Worlds in Hawaii, just five months away. Florian qualifies for Kona on the back of this strong performance and a silver medal finish at Ironman Mallorca in 2021.

Florian says:
„I'm super happy with fifth place at my first-ever Worlds. The course was perfect for a straight-up, challenging race and the weather conditions made it even tougher. I've been waiting for these World Championships ever since I qualified at Ironman Barcelona in 2019.“
