When we say "painted by hand", that's what we mean. Our Liquidlava paint finish is the kind of colour scheme that can only be done what some people might call the "old-fashioned" way, but which we prefer to think of as representing the kind of attention to detail and perfectionism that goes into every CUBE frame. Although we can't share the details of every part of the process, all you really need to know is that human creativity and hand finishing means that every single Liquidlava frame is as unique as your DNA. It's a paint finish that's bold, striking and a testament to our commitment to innovation in both production and design.

It's all in the preparation. And preparation begins in our own paint shop in Waldershof by carefully mixing, by hand, the particles that help give Liquidlava its distinctive "pop". It's a laborious and painstaking process, but we know that getting the detail right is critical.

Sometimes, there's no substitute for trying out different options. Testing different base coats helps establish which one will work best for the distinctive Liquidlava paint. We have a good idea what works already, but practice makes perfect and small differences can be the key.

4. INITIAL PAINT TESTS

Here's where it gets interesting: taking one of our raw carbon frames and carefully painting it, by hand and using custom trimmed brushes, to test out the finish that we're aiming for. We're looking for something distinctive and bold, yet subtle and understated.

When perfection is the goal, it's a case of try and try again until we've identified the best way to handle both the process and the finish. A base-coated carbon frame provides the test bed for further experiments in colour and tone – including where on the frame the paint finish will work best – until our design team is completely happy with the results.

We won't rest until it's perfect – but when it is, we know that we're onto something special. A process that is both repeatable and generates distinctive, one-off finishes is the holy grail, but we've become rather good at it. Liquidlava passes final tests, and is ready to grace some of our most elegant and high performance frames.

All the creativity, all the attention to detail... it's worth it when the end result is revealed. As light glances across the sculpted flanks of a carbon frame, it catches the particles embedded in the paint, shifting hue and tone as the angle changes. A little bit of visual magic – unique and always in motion, just like the bike. Perfect.
